Myth- I have heard that after a total knee replacement, I’ll have to give up some exercises and games.
Fact- We have a huge expectation of getting back to exercises like walking, biking or hiking in 4 to 6 weeks, taking it slow at first to determine how much the recuperating knee can tolerate. It will take a bit higher to recover from extra rigorous, activity.
Exercise and Sports after knee replacement surgery
Continue to do the exercises prescribed by the physical therapist for at least 2 months after knee surgery. In some cases, knee specialist doctor may recommend riding a stationary bicycle to help maintain muscle tone and it makes your knee flexible. while riding, try to achieve the highest degree of bending and straightening possible.
As soon as the doctor gives consent, you can return to many of the sports activities.
- Walk as much as you would like, but remember that walking is no substitute for the exercises prescribed by the doctor.
- Swimming is a best low-impact activity after a total knee replacement. You can start it after removing the sutures.
- However, lower impact fitness activities such as bicycling, playing golf, and light tennis will help in increasing the durability of the knee.
